Volunteers at the Maryland Department of Aging (MDOA) play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for Maryland’s aging population while developing essential career-building skills in communications, problem-solving, teamwork, and program coordination.

What We Do

Collaboration is at the heart of MDOA’s approach as it works across governments, nonprofits, and public and private sectors to build a comprehensive support system for older adults, strengthening communities and improving the lives of all Marylanders as we age. Rooted in inclusivity, compassion, and innovation, MDOA strives to ensure that older adults have access to the resources, services, and opportunities they need to lead healthy, independent, and purposeful lives.

What You’ll Do

MDOA seeks diverse talent who are passionate about changing the lives of Marylanders through health policy, social work, communications, and aging services program development.

  • Gain valuable insight in public service, health care, and social work careers by supporting program development, training, technical assistance, and legislation efforts at the state government level.
  • Help champion elder rights and empower older adults by creating protections against elder abuse, fraud, exploitation, and neglect.
  • Support statewide efforts in how aging is viewed and change the aging narrative by promoting the value of older Marylanders and supporting age equity.
  • Break down barriers and create a more inclusive and accessible environment for older adults in a range of available program areas including senior nutrition services, caregiver support, health promotion, legal assistance, and long-term care advocacy.
