Maryland Commission on Aging
About the Maryland Commission on Aging
The Maryland Commission on Aging operates under statutory authority (Human Services § 10–208) and was modernized by the Longevity Ready Maryland (LRM) Act (Senate Bill 113/House Bill 278, 2026). The Commission evaluates statewide programs and provides strategic recommendations to the Secretary of Aging on the policies and legislation needed to support the realities of longer lives for all Marylanders.

Composition and Leadership
Under the LRM Act, the appointment of the Commission’s 13 voting members is distributed accordingly:
- 10 members are appointed by the Governor.
- One Senator is appointed by the President of the Senate.
- One Delegate is appointed by the Speaker of the House.
- The Secretary of Aging (or their designee) serves as ex officio.
A Modernized Approach
To ensure the Commission remains both representative and effective, the LRM Act expands its membership to include a diverse panel of experts in technology, health care, and innovation, alongside dedicated representatives from veteran and immigrant communities and Area Agencies on Aging. Notably, the LRM Act removes the previous age requirement for members, shifting the focus from age-specific representation toward lived experience and professional expertise. By integrating this broad range of knowledge with voices from residents of all ages, the Commission ensures that the needs of every Marylander are heard while driving the state’s multisector longevity-ready strategy.
