An internship with the Maryland Department of Aging (MDOA) is a perfect way to connect what you're learning in school to the real work of serving older adults and their families. Who is eligible to apply?

​​Eligible applicants typically include undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in an accredited college or university. Some positions may also be open to recent graduates or high school students, depending on the opportunity.

Are the internships paid or unpaid?

Internships may be unpaid or offer a stipend, depending on funding availability and the specific role. Details will be included in each internship posting.

What fields of study are best suited for internships with MDOA?

​​Ideal candidates are studying public health, social work, gerontology, public administration, policy, communications, data analysis, or other related fields. However, all students with a passion for public service are encouraged to apply.

What kinds of work will the interns do? 

Interns may support program development, outreach and communications, policy research, data analysis, administrative operations, or special projects, depending on their assignment. Specific responsibilities will be outlined in the internship description.

​How long is the internship program?

Internship duration varies by role but typically lasts between 8 to 12 weeks. Part-time and flexible schedules may be available.

Is remote or hybrid work an option? 

Some internships may be conducted remotely or in a hybrid format, depending on the needs of the department and the nature of the work. This will be discussed during the interview process.

Can the internship count toward academic credit? 

Yes, we are happy to work with your academic institution to meet internship credit requirements. Please let us know your school’s criteria in advance.

Will interviews be required? 

Yes, a phone or virtual interview may be requested following the review of your application.
